What I’m Learning to Let Go Of

Updated: Jul 28

As I write this, we're well into the year, and I've realized something: we don't have to wait for January to begin again.

We often think fresh starts belong to the new year, but growth doesn't follow a calendar. Sometimes the most meaningful shifts happen in the middle of an ordinary season, when we finally decide we're ready to put something down.

Lately, I've been reflecting on what I'm ready to release—not because it's January, but because I'm no longer willing to carry it.

The Weight of Second-Guessing

One of the most significant things I’m choosing to release in 2026 is second-guessing myself. This isn’t about thoughtful reflection; it’s about the exhausting habit of revisiting decisions I’ve already made. I often find myself quietly questioning my instincts and softening my truth to make it easier to live with. It’s subtle, yet it drains my energy.

As a therapist, I understand where this pattern originates. Second-guessing often stems from people-pleasing, hyper-attunement, and the belief that keeping others comfortable will keep us safe. This understanding has allowed me to meet this part of myself with compassion. However, knowing something doesn’t mean I want to carry it forward.

What I’ve learned is profound: when I second-guess myself, resentment follows.

The Cycle of Resentment

Resentment toward choices I made without fully consenting to them. Resentment toward lives I compare mine to when I’m not honoring my own. This resentment has nothing to do with anyone else; it’s all about self-betrayal.

Letting go of second-guessing is my path to living more freely, without resentment. When my choices, boundaries, and behaviors are authentically mine, I don’t need to justify or explain them. I feel steadier, clearer, and more at home in my life.

The Power of Connection

I’m also learning that this kind of change doesn’t happen in isolation. Our nervous systems learn through relationships. Being around people who embody alignment, self-trust, and authenticity makes it easier to remember our own truth. Their energy provides evidence that another way of being is possible.

This realization is one of the reasons we’re creating an intentional spaces this year for reflection, release, and intention-setting together.

Breathe Retreat

August 27th-30th

This retreat isn’t about pushing yourself into a new version of who you should be. It’s about slowing down long enough to hear yourself again. It’s about letting your next chapter emerge from alignment instead of pressure. You can learn more about and register for Breathe Retreat here!

Embracing Change and Growth

As we continue through this year, my hope is that we spend less time forcing ourselves forward. Instead, let’s focus on what we no longer need to carry. Each of us has the power to choose what serves us and what doesn’t.

The Importance of Self-Care

Self-care is not just a buzzword; it’s a vital practice. It’s about nurturing our mental health and well-being. Engaging in activities that promote relaxation and joy can help us release the burdens we carry. Whether it’s through EMDR, IFS, life coaching, or simply spending time in nature, self-care is essential.

The Role of EMDR and IFS in Healing

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and IFS (Internal Family Systems) are powerful therapeutic approaches. They can help us process trauma and understand our internal landscapes. By integrating these methods into our healing journey, we can foster deep healing and personal transformation.

The Healing Power of Community

Community plays a crucial role in our healing journey. Surrounding ourselves with supportive individuals can make a significant difference. When we share our experiences and listen to others, we create a sense of belonging. This connection is vital for our mental health.

A Different Kind of Beginning

Whether you're letting go of people-pleasing, perfectionism, second-guessing yourself, or something entirely your own, know that you don't have to navigate it alone.

Healing isn't about becoming someone new. It's about returning to yourself with greater clarity, compassion, and self-trust. And sometimes, having someone walk beside you can make all the difference.

If you're ready to stop second-guessing yourself and start living from a place of greater self-trust, I'd love to support you. Together, we'll explore the patterns that no longer serve you and create space for the life that's waiting on the other side of them.
